Take your Blues to the next level with a weekend intensive on Feb 26 & 27. Rachael DeMers and Andrew Smith will teach private lessons on Saturday and a workshop on Sunday to deliver a mix of personalized and group feedback that is sure to be challenging and fun. The workshop is designed for dancers with 0.5 - 2 yrs of experience, but all levels are encouraged to attend. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
About the Instructors
Rachael DeMers is from Denver, CO. She focuses on concepts such as simplicity, clarity, expression, and body awareness which are critical to advanced social dancing. She strongly believes in incorporating both creativity and technique into social dancing and teaches her students how to find a balance of the two within their own dancing. Andrew Smith is from Portland, OR (and now San Francisco). He seeks to share his passion for dance and help others organically find their own joy in it. Andrew exudes a positive and empathic attitude that encourages students to challenge themselves. He highly values a balance of technique and creativity. Class 1: Dancer Bootcamp. Dance conditioning to strengthen your core and improve quality of movement. Incorporates work from modern, pilates, calisthenics, and hip hop. Come prepared to sweat.
Class 2: Adding "Mmm" To Your Dance. Connection, dance positions, partnering, walking, intention, posture, and turning. Everything necessary to make your partner say, "Mmm..."
Class 3: Solo Blues. Practice vernacular jazz dancing, African movement, and isolations to cultivate self-confidence in your solo dancing.
Class 4: Blues and Latin Rhythms. Discover the intricate and exciting Latin rhythms present in a large amount of Blues music. (Ever dance to "Death Came A Knocking" by Ruthie Foster? Latin rhythms.)
1. Create a constructive and safe environment for learning.
2. Present concepts in an approachable, but challenging, format.
3. Encourage students to push themselves in their dance.
4. Balance focus on technical and conceptual learning.
5. Ensure every student receives something level-appropriate in each class.
